किसी से ‘कह’ नहीं सकता…
‘हज़ारों’ मील तक ‘फैला’ है,
फिर भी ‘बह’ नहीं सकता….

The sea is helpless
Can't 'tell' anyone...
Spread over thousands of miles
Still can't 'flow'….

हम तो दिलों पर राज किया करते हैं,
रूठे हुए को भी हम मना लिया करते हैं,
मुलाकातें तो हमारी सबसे कम ही होती हैं,
लेकिन हम जब भी मिलते हैं तो मुस्कुरा दिया करते हैं।

We rule the hearts
We convince even the angry ones
Our meetings are very rare
But whenever we meet we smile.

अकेले जीना भी आ ही जाता है ….
जब मालूम होता है साथ चलने वाला …

लुट जाए कोई बस्ती तो आबाद कैसे हो
मिट जाए कोई हस्ती तो उन्माद कैसे हो
किराया नहीं जिस मुसाफिर के पास

The traveler who has no fare
How can his journey be complete?

एक सिल-सिले की उम्मीद थी जिनसे,
वही फ़ासले बनाते गये।
हम तो पास आने की कोशिश में थे,
ना जाने क्यूँ वो हमसे दूरियाँ बढ़ाते गये।

There was a strong expectation from whom
They kept creating the same distance.
We were just trying to get closer
Don't know why he kept increasing the distance from us.

न तस्वीर है तुम्हारी जो दीदार किया जाये,
न तुम हो मेरे पास जो प्यार किया जाये,
ये कौन सा दर्द दिया है तुमने ऐ सनम,
न कुछ कहा जाये न तुम बिन रहा जाये।

There is no picture of you that can be seen
Neither do I have you to love
What kind of pain have you given me O beloved?
Neither should anything be said nor should you be left without it.

देख कर उसको अक्सर हमें एहसास होता है,
कभी कभी ग़म देने वाला भी बहुत खास होता है,
ये और बात है वो हर पल नहीं होता पास हमारे,
मगर उसका दिया ग़म अक्सर हमारे पास होता है।

When we see him we often feel
Sometimes the one who gives grief is also very special
This is another matter he is not with us every moment.
But the sorrow given by him is often with us.

चलते-चलते अकेले अब थक गए हम,
जो मंज़िल को जाये वो डगर चाहिए,
तन्हाई का बोझ अब और उठता नहीं,
अब हमको भी एक हमसफ़र चाहिए।

Now we are tired of walking alone
We need a path that takes us to our destination.
The burden of loneliness no longer lifts
Now we also need a companion.

ज़रा सी ज़िंदगी है अरमान बहुत है,
हमदर्द नहीं कोई पर इंसान बहुत है,
दिल का दर्द सुनाये किसको,
जो शख्स दिल के करीब है वो अंजान बहुत है

Life is short desires are many
There are no sympathizers but there are many human beings
To whom should I share my heart's pain?

तू ही बता ए दिल कि तुझे समझाऊं कैसे,
जिसे चाहता है तू उसे नज़दीक लाऊँ कैसे,
यूँ तो हर तमन्ना हर एहसास है वो मेरा,
मगर उस एहसास को ये एहसास दिलाऊं कैसे।

You tell me O heart how I can explain to you
How can I bring the one I love closer to me?
Well every wish every feeling is mine
But how can I make that feeling felt?

चाहत हुई किसी से तो फिर बेइन्तेहाँ हुई,
चाहा तो चाहतों की हद से गुजर गए,
हमने खुदा से कुछ भी न माँगा मगर उसे,
माँगा तो सिसकियों की भी हद से गुजर गये।

If I fell in love with someone then it was unrequited
If I wanted I crossed the limits of my desires
We did not ask anything from God but Him
When asked he went beyond even sobbing.

कि तेरे होकर भी हम तेरे हो ना सके,
तुझे पा कर भी तुझे हम पा ना सके,
बस ये इक दुख है जो रहेगा हमें उम्र भर,
की हम चाह कर तुझे खुद से बुला ना सके..

That despite being yours we could not be yours
Even after finding you we could not find you.
This is just a sadness that will remain with us throughout our lives
That we couldn't call you on our own even if we wanted to..

बिकता है गम हँसी के बाज़ार मे
लाखो दर्द छिपे होते है एक छोटे से इनकार मे
वो क्या समझ पाएंगे प्यार की कशिश,
जिन्होंने फर्क ही नही समझा पसंद और प्यार मैं

Sorrow is sold in the market of laughter.
Millions of pains are hidden in one small denial
Will they be able to understand the pull of love?
Who did not understand the difference between like and love?

सोचता हूँ सागर की लहरों को देख कर,
क्यूँ ये किनारे से टकरा कर पलट जातें हैं,
करते हैं ये सागर से बेवफाई,
या फिर सागर से वफ़ा निभातें हैं |

I think looking at the waves of the ocean
Why do they collide with the shore and turn over?
They betray the ocean
Or do we remain loyal to the ocean?

आता है कौन वक्त पर. किससे दुआ करे .
अच्छा है अपने गम की खुद ही “दवा” करे

Who comes on time? Whom to pray to?
It is better to medicate your sorrow yourself.

जब दिल रोता हैं ना
आंसु दिखते नहीं है,
दर्द तो बहुत होता है,
चोट नजर आती नहीं है

ना जाने मुहब्बत में कितने अफसाने बन जाते है
शमां जिसको भी जलाती है वो परवाने बन जाते है
कुछ हासिल करना ही इश्क कि मंजिल नही होती
किसी को खोकर भी कुछ लोग दिवाने बन जाते है

I don't know how many stories are created in love.
Whoever the shaman burns turns into moths.
Achieving something is not the goal of love
Some people go crazy even after losing someone.

ना जाने, कितनी अनकही बातें,
साथ ले जाएंगे, झूठ ही कहते हैं लोग,
ख़ाली हाथ आए थे, ख़ाली हाथ जाएंगे !

I don't know how many untold things there are
Will take you along people say lies only.
Came empty handed will go empty handed!

किस बात की सजा दे रही हो…
प्यार किया इसलिए ….
या फिर…
तुमसे ज्यादा किया इसलिए।

ख्वाहिशों ने सिखाया कि मचलना कैसे है,
तो हकीकत ने सिखाया चुप रहकर जीना कैसे है.!

Desires taught me how to be restless
So reality taught us how to live silently.
